Week 2 Volleyball

It’s been a wild week in Class AAAAAAA with eight of the 10 ranked teams already suffering defeats. No. 1 Walton and No. 2 Lassiter both remain unbeaten. Walton scored a 2-0 (25-20, 25-20) win over Westminster and a 2-0 win over Harrison (25-8, 25-15) on Tuesday to open its season. Lassiter improved to 1-0 on the year with a sweep against St. Francis (25-21, 25-5, 25-6). Etowah jumped from No. 8 to No. 3 after reaching the finals of the Sequoyah Classic and opening the year 6-1. The Eagles were defeated (25-21, 26-24) by Sequoyah. South Forsyth dropped one spot to No. 4 and sits at 6-2 after losses to Allatoona and Alpharetta in cross-classification play.

In Class AAAAAA, Sequoyah is the new No. 1 after getting off to a blazing 9-0 start. The Chiefs’ impressive opening to the year includes victories over Blessed Trinity (2-1), Allatoona (2-1), Etowah (2-0) and Lambert (2-0). McIntosh remains No. 1 in Class AAAAA after posting wins over Dunwoody and St. Pius to open the year 2-0 and Chamblee sits at No. 2 after a 6-0 start. Riverwood jumped to No. 3 and is 4-0 on the year and Union Grove used a win over Locust Grove to improve to No. 6.

St. Pius is No. 1 in Class AAAA and has opened the year 7-1. The Golden Lions’ lone loss came in a tight 2-0 defeat to McIntosh (19-25, 24-26). Columbus jumped Blessed Trinity for No. 3 and Sandy Creek debut in the poll at No. 8 in place of Cartersville, which dropped out after its 1-3 start.

Class AAA No. 1 Pace Academy is 2-0 with wins over Chattahoochee and Forsyth Central. Greater Atlanta Christian replaces Lovett at No. 3 and Hart County replaces East Hall at No. 10.

In Class AA/A-Public, Coosa remains No. 1 at 3-0 and Johnson replaces Jordan. Calvary Day takes over No. 1 in Class AA/A-Private after Mount Paran’s 3-1 loss to Harrison.
