Lady Trojan Volleyball
Coaching Staff
Dottie Saye
Head Coach

Dottie Saye begins her eighteenth year as an English teacher and her fourteenth year as the varsity volleyball coach at Lassiter High School. Her previous coaching tenure at LHS also includes thirteen years as the assistant girls’ basketball coach.

A University of Georgia graduate with a BA in Comparative Literature and a former Division I basketball player at Vanderbilt University, Coach Saye maintains that her experiences as a high school student-athlete at Wheeler High School in softball, basketball, tennis, and volleyball continue to motivate her work and goals as a high school coach. She believes that the laughter, tears, and sweat are all inherent symbols of high school athletics at its best… building strength, character, and awareness.

Competition is part of that package. Coach Saye encourages student-athletes to “have fun.” But, she acknowledges that winning is very definitely part of that fun. Her previous statistical records support her competitive edge. From 1991 to 2000 and from 2005-2007, Coach Saye led the Lady Trojan volleyball teams to an overall win-loss record of 404-169. Ten of her thirteen teams participated in the state playoffs, including most recently the 2007 team, the 2006 State Runner-Up team, and the 2005 Area Championship team.

Her 1995 team also finished the season as the State Runner-Up while the ’94, ’99, and ‘05 teams finished with rankings in the top five. Three other teams finished in the top ten rankings; also included in her volleyball tenure are three more Area Championships (’94, ’95, ’99), three Area Runner-Up finishes (’93, ’97, ’06), and four Cobb County Championships (’94, ’97, ’06). In addition to volleyball, Coach Saye accumulated a 111-34 win-loss coaching sub-varsity basketball teams and a 253-97 win-loss record as the assistant varsity basketball coach at LHS.

Beyond her teaching and coaching, Coach Saye enjoys reading (this summer’s best read: Ted Sorensen’s Counselor), boating, fishing, antiquing, cooking, and gardening. She’s also “Mama” to two dogs (Ivy and Rudi), and three cats (Merle, Jig, and Roxie).
